Art Break - The King in Yellow Painting

I started reading 'The King in Yellow' again and was inspired to do a creepy painting.

I'm thinking of the King in the pallid mask, the fog and the lake.

I want this to be so creepy that PB wants it out of the house.

I started with a canvas on a frame.

I scetched it out in pencil.

Then got to work.

It was a bit hard to do the sign in the pendant, but I think I did really well!

Finally I paint the mask and add the stars (black gems) and some diamonds to the diadem (silver gems).

And done!

Update: My sister found it creepy! Yes!!!!

Book Review - The King in Yellow, Robert W. Chambers

This is a series of short stories, first published in 1895, often tied together by references to a play called 'The King in Yellow'.

The play is a supernatural, evil work that many argue should not have ever been allowed to exist.
Once you start to read it, it is near impossible to stop.
Once read, the reader's mind is left corrupted and disturbed.
The play is tied to the inhuman 'yellow sign', which upon sight, also wields a terrible power over the viewer.

The short stories reference the play in various degrees, from not at all to being obsessed with.
It is very interesting to follow these small snippets of peoples' lives and upon finishing each story (and the collection) I was left wishing there was more.

Much like the play referenced within, this collection left me unsettled and ravenous for more.

My only gripe was that the last story did not mention the play at all. I wanted to know more!

This collection went on to act as an inspiration for H. P. Lovecraft (of the Cthulhu Mythos fame).
