Podcast Review - Alice Isn't Dead

This follows the story of a truck driver (who goes by many names) as she searches for her missing wife.

I did like how despite the story involving a lesbian relationship, they feel no need to explicitly stating it. I like that a lot.

We start learning about the 'Thistle man' and begin to peel back the layers of something bigger.

I won't go too much into the story, I don't want to spoil it.

The only thing I don't like is the guy who introduces the story each time, he talks for far too long.
And here's a question for you: Why did the chicken cross the road?

Because he wanted to be involved. Because he liked the story. Because he couldn't bear letting the story shine. Because he should be the story. Because he needs the attention. Because he needs to be the centre of attention.
Because he wants part of the fame and glory. Because he can't present a good story.
Because atmosphere be damned.
Because he can't be quiet.
Because your enjoyment be damned.
Because he must be the star.
He must be.
He must.

Catagory: Horror
Rating: 2.5/5 (It would be 4.5/5 if the stupid intro and end was cut off the episodes, but I have to rate it as presented).

Magnetic Eyelashes

This packaging is super cute and sturdy.

You may have seen videos abut these, they are false eyelashes that clip on to your eyelashes with a small magnet.

They don't extend over the full lash line, so these are for the outer  half.

Without mascara.
This half-lash is a problem, as the false lashes look so out of place.
I know why they did it, to make it work with the magnets, but they should have tried to fix this.

It would have been better if the false lashes were shorter but I know why they aren't, to make them easier to put on.

Also my left lash won't snap together properly.
The asymmetry is annoying.

They have a clear lash band, which I guess is good or bad depending on your preference.

It feels like there is something on my lashes and it is kind of annoying.
They are also more difficult to put on than normal false lashes.

I washed and disinfected them to send them to a friend to play with, but the damn magnets CAME OFF!
These are not as reusable as you may think!

All that effort for naught.

There are so many things wrong with these, they should have been stopped as soon as the prototype was tested.
For the gimmick of magnetic lashes, the payoff is absolute rubbish.

Price: 4/5 ($4.13 for a pair)
Effectiveness: -5/5

Book Review - The Selfish Gene - Richard Dawkins

Let me just preface this by saying I believe Dawkins to be an insufferable twat. That out of the way, this book presents a very convincing and interesting theory on the origins of life.

Selfish gene theory looks at natural selection through the perspective of the survival of the fittest genes, not the fittest individual. This small shift in perspective provides interesting and satisfying insight into the way species and their characteristics came to be.

Dawkins runs through multiple examples of this theory being supported in nature and I found the book to be delightful overall.

My two issues with it are not really with the work at all, more notes:

1) I consumed this as an audio-book. I could imagine that this work could become a bit dull if you had to rely solely on yourself to keep going. So perhaps try the audio-book of this one.

2) While it is a great theory, Dawkins still annoys the heck out of me. But I don't have to like him to like his book.

Overall: 4/5
