D.I.Y. Is This So Fun!? - Oven Light Switch

So the oven light switch broke AGES ago and has been a sad nub for years.

PU1 is away at the moment, so why not try to fix it and see if she notices.

I have this cap that I found, which will make a good substitute.

I put some glue and tissue in it to get the inside nice and tight.

I then stuck it on the nub.

And painted it black.

Awe yeah!

Verdict: PU1 loved it! I had to point it out, but it was very well recieved!

D.I.Y Did You Do That!? - Upper Cupboard Door

I came home from work last night to see this:

I asked what happened and apparently the screws of the door failed.
Then someone, lets say PUx... no, that's too obvious, x2, tried to fix it.

He did this by taking the door off and trying to fill in the holes with an unwieldy acrylic cement.

This was the mess he left PU1 and myself to tackle.

So let's get some new screws.

We can reuse the old hinges.

First we need to scrape off some of that cement to get a flat surface, so the door will shut.

Why did he even use it in the first place?!

Then we screw in and glue the hinge to the door.

Babycat gave us a helping hand.

He's the best! <3

I marked up the cupboard then PU1 and I took turns holding the door and drilling it in place. (It was far too hot today for this task)

Finished!

Hair Cut

All I need is a simple pair of scissors!

Since early last year, I have been cutting my own hair.
Not just trimming my fringe, but cutting layers into my hair.

It always looks like so much!

I thought it would be really hard, but I found it really easy.
I first tried it because I don't like going to the hair dressers (it can cost so much, you have to make an appointment, and the small talk is so awkward) and hair grows back.
Also, if I messed it up I'd just claim I was just expressing myself creatively.

Sometimes it does go a little wrong, like my most recent hair cut looked like a mullet the next day, but it is an easy fix.

Aunt Selma has one hour to live!

Now when I wake up, I look like Bob Dylan (according to PU2).

Would you ever style your own hair?

D.I.Y wasn't this done before?! - The Cupboard Door

This cupboard door has been wonky since I was young. Now I am home, sick of looking at it, and going to fix it.

To fix it, I need to make the wood firmer (this all sounds so dirty XP).

For this, I'm using wood glue and match sticks.

I had a little 'helper':

And a surprise guest!

That is a damn red back spider!

The first screwdriver I found was broken :(

This is meant to be a flat head screwdriver!

I wanted to take the door off properly, but the bottom screw of the top hinge was tightened by Hercules himself.

I could get it out, but I'm trying to fix things, not destroy them.
So I just worked around it.

Once the glue dried, I flattened off the matchsticks and put the screws back in.

Adding a third screw.

And done!

Verdict: It's much more secure now and doesn't feel like it will fall off in your hands.
I wish I had power tools, it would make this all so much easier!
