The Body Shop - Elderflower Unperfumed Eye Gel
I actually used this as an all over face cream when I went to hospital and it worked really well.
Even though it has alcohol in it, it didn't bother my skin.
I like that it has witch hazel and is lightweight (particularly nice as my room was quite warm).
When put under my eye, it did make that area look happier.
Price: 3/5 ($15 for 15mL)
Scent: 2/5 (nice witch hazel smell, but also an alcohol smell which sucks)
Effectiveness: 4/5
Purple Prairie Botanicals - Organic Olive Oil Lotion - Frankincense & Myrrh
This smells AMAZING! It is herbal and spicy.
It contains olive, sunflower, coconut, frankincense, myrrh, orange, and rosewood oil.
It also has witch hazel, black willow, and rosemary extract.
I really wanted to love this, but my skin on my torso didn't agree with it.
But you better believe it was all used up on my legs!
It absorbed well and left my legs well moisturised.
Price: 3/5 ($15.89 for 237 mL)
Scent: 5/5
Effectiveness: 3/5
Thursday Plantation - Tea Tree Hand & Body Lotion
Like Toula's father in 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' who thinks Windex is a panacea, my alleged father thinks tea tree oil cures all.
I usually just tell him that he expects too much of a simple oil and leave it at that.
Then recently I got a little bit of a dry patch on my leg and figured why not use this for a test?
The Thursday Plantation hand and body lotion smells strongly of tea tree oil, but also contains a number of other botanical extracts as well, including witch hazel, macadamia and honeysuckle.
It is a good viscosity for a lotion as well.
I put it on my dry skin for three days and... It tore my skin to shreads! :(
It became red, itchy, weeping and sore.
I think the problem may be that this contains too much of the oil... and that the oil is NOT the magical cure-all you think it is, father!
A better treatment for dry skin/burns/eczema:
Soooo much better!
Price: 3.5/5 (RRP $13.30 for 200mL)
Scent: 1/5 (I think it is stinky)
Effectiveness: 0/5
T. N. Dickinson's All Natural Witch Hazel
This is my favourite toner, I started using it years ago.
It smells clean, herb-like and almost hospital-like.
It does contain alcohol (a result of the distillation process), but I didn't find it drying or stinging. Although don't put it in your eyes!
A little also goes a long way, so a bottle lasts a while :)
Price: 4/5 ($6.59 for 240mL)
Scent: 4/5
Effectiveness: 4/5
Masquerade! - Angel Beauté - Whitening Moisturizing Mask
I love the silver packaging of this mask!
It contains pearl, arbutin, vitamin c, collagen, hyaluronic acid, rose water, aloe, elastin, honey, seaweed and witch hazel. (quite a formula)!
Masquerade! - My Scheming EGF & Amino Acid Double Lifting Mask
This came with the stupid backing sheet... but it does cover the neck as well, which is fun.
Has witch hazel and sunflower extract; smells light, soapy and floral.
Simple - Clear Skin Oil Balancing Exfoliating Wash
This witch hazel face wash has a small amount for exfoliating beads, which is perfect for a daily, gentle scrub.
Since I started using it, I did notice a decrease in the amount of pimples I had, but not a complete fix. It didn't upset my delicate skin and it left my face feeling clean and refreshed.
The only thing I don't like is that this wash doesn't lather up much, but that is a personal preference.
Price: 4/5 (rrp $9.99)
Scent: 4/5 (witch hazel, fresh)
Effectiveness: 4/5
